Earthbound Bio
Recently there has been a resurgence of "Classic Rock"
music hitting the concert stages and airwaves across the planet. Included are bands like
Yes, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, King Crimson and Genesis. These groups represent the
progressive edge of rock music, challenging the listener with adventuresome arrangements,
daring harmonies and complex time signatures. In the spirit of this revival, EARTHBOUND, a
group of Vancouver musicians, has dedicated itself to faithfully keeping this music alive.
Reforming after 15 years, they have joined forces again to perform the music which
inspired them.
To hear this music being played live with all the energy and fire EARTHBOUND commands is
truly a wondrous experience. The audience is taken back to the mid 70's, that truly
progressive era of dynamic rock acts and "art music". One imagines sitting in
the old Marquee club in London seeing Yes or King Crimson playing for their first
audiences. Like those bands, EARTHBOUND evokes a passionate response from both a new-found
and established following.
THE PLAYERS:
- BOB CALDWELL ... percussionist. Being a classically trained percussionist and rock drummer with solid roots, Bob's diverse musical interests and innovative techniques using acoustic and electronic percussion play an important role in EARTHBOUND's unique rhythmic foundation.
- JOEL NOFTLE ... keyboardist/ vocalist. Joel's sense of electronic sound scapes and keyboard playing ability are key to the symphonic EARTHBOUND sound. The difficult keyboard passages often found in progressive rock are executed in precise form and technique.
- Paul Seale ... guitarist/ vocalist. A core member of Earthbound since 1970 from Victoria. Upon moving to Vancouver in 1974, Paul has played in numerous club bands such as Airshow. Paul's attention to detail enables the band to perform sophisticated passages often found in the band's repertoire.
- JOHN LARSEN ... bassist/ vocalist. A player and composer of music from rock to jazz fusion, John's diverse bass playing style and vocal harmonizing ability provide solid support for the EARTHBOUND sound.
- BRAD GENT ... vocalist/ composer. Brad is gifted with an extremely versatile voice both in range and timbre. His melodic singing style propel EARTHBOUND'S complex YES-like vocal arrangements.
- GREG STORY ... lead guitarist/ lap steel/ vocalist. Greg has played in a variety of bands from progressive rock to R & B. EARTHBOUND's repertoire includes challenging material in which Greg's technique and attention to sound are showcased.
